I see a litter, or puppy I am interested in. Can I place a deposit so I have first selection?
We never take deposits on puppies before they are born. There is so much that can happen through breeding, whelping and the first several weeks of life that we do not know how many puppies we will have, nor do we know their dispositions or suitability. We sometimes take deposits once the puppies are old enough to show their personalities and if they will be held back for show homes, or available for pet homes. This will usually never be before they are 6 weeks of age. At the time suitability and disposition is assessed the puppy is matched with a family who's wants and needs mirror the puppy. At that time a deposit will hold the puppy.
Can I choose my puppy myself?
Puppies are evaluated at 6-8 weeks old. At that time we will decide which puppies will be available for show homes, and which will be available for pet homes. We place a lot of consideration on the temperament of the puppies to determine which type of home would best suite each puppy. For example, a very active home, that is always on the go would be a great home for a more active, bold boxer. A home that is more quiet may be better for a boxer that is not as boisterous. If we have more than one puppy that may suit your home, generally you can pick from them; however we reserve the right to make the final decision based on what is best for the puppy.
PLEASE NOTE:
While we understand many people have preferences of color we do NOT match puppies to families based on this. If you will only accept a puppy of certain color/markings please be aware it may be much longer before a puppy is matched with you. While we ask what color you prefer on the application, please indicate in the comments section if you are , or are not open to other color/ markings.
What have the puppies been taught before they go to their new homes?
Puppies born here are exposed to "training" from the moment they are born. We do extensive bio sensor work with them starting from day 1. Here is an article on this type of training and why it is beneficial. When their eyes and ears are open they spend most of their time right in our living room, where they are exposed to household noises, vacuum cleaners, TV, children, dogs barking etc. We also play a desensitization loop on our nearby computer that plays noises like garbage trucks, cat fights, and blenders. This ensures your puppy is well adjusted to scary noises and will not be easily upset later on in life.
Starting at 3 weeks old puppies are litter box trained. Naturally puppies do not want to sleep in their own waste and will seek out a place to potty. When you take your puppy home you can continue to use this method to provide an area at night for your puppy to relieve itself and during the day to encourage potty time outside.
Puppies are introduced to other dogs, children, and livestock while with us. By introducing them to such a wide array of sights and sounds, your puppy will be ready to venture out into the world as a happy, healthy, well adjusted member of the family.
Do you only have show quality puppies?
No. While we always strive to produce boxers that are as close to standard as possible, every litter will have "pet" quality puppies. This does not mean that they are inferior in any way. Many of our "pet" puppies could do well in the show ring, but since we must be very selective about who is shown we only make a limited number of puppies available for show.
What is your "health guarantee"?
We health test all of our breeding stock before they are bred. We want to make sure your puppies live as long as possible to provide years of love and enjoyment to their human families. Unfortunately sometimes due to unforeseen circumstances a puppy from health tested parents have a health issue. For issues that have an environmental component like hip displaysia we offer a two year guarantee. We offer a lifetime guarantee on anything that is congenital and poses a significant impact to your dogs like. That means, for instance, that if you find out at any age, that your dog has brachycephalic Obstructed Airway Syndrome, or a defective internal organ that he/she was born with that would be covered in your guarantee. Many breeders require you give your sick puppy back before you qualify for your guarantee. This is not the case with us. You must provide us with your vet records, as well as a spay or neuter certificate and you will be able to collect on your guarantee.
I would like to breed my pet puppy just once before they are fixed. Is this ok?
No. We do not allow our pet quality puppies to be bred. There is no health benefit to breeding a dog before they are fixed. Breeding should only be done to improve the breed, and after health tests are done. If you are interested in breeding, let us know and we will be happy to talk to you about showing dogs, and the steps that are needed to be taken to breed dogs as a reputable, ethical breeder.
How much do your puppies cost?
This depends on the puppy. In general our pet home puppies are around $2500 . Show puppies generally are $3500 plus crop expenses. Show Dog in a PET HOME puppies are deeply discounted. Prices do fluctuate and often depends on the circumstances.
I see you have an option for a "Show Dog in a Pet Home". What is that?
Sometimes we have a puppy that is exceptional and we would like to keep him or her in our program but we do not have the dog space. In this scenario we will place the puppy in a pet home at a deeply reduced rate. The new family will allow this puppy to be shown at our expense and later bred. This is not for everyone; however if you are interested in possibly showing in the future but you can not afford the financial or time commitment, or are interested in one of our show puppies, but not interested in taking on showing yourself, this may be an option for you. You must live in the Sacramento and surrounding areas for this option.
I am interested in showing but I have never done it before. Will you help me?
YES! We are very happy to have new people to show with and will be there to guide you every step of the way!
